Personally, I love to write. I always did. From the time I was a child, I loved to write. But there was always one downside I didn’t like–nobody wanted to pay me what I was worth. They never paid me enough to buy a nice house in a nice neighborhood, a nice car, or send my kids to good schools. Even after I finished two years of grad work in creative writing, no one would pay me enough to make my life more comfortable. Though my craft was making them rich, they didn’t see the justice in paying me a decent pay. Writers paint the world’s face, share their concepts that make things better, but no one thinks it’s important enough to pay them big.
After 10 years of writing, people and companies were still paying me just about minimum wage to ghostwrite their books, and pour over their magazines. Well, things changed when my husband passed away from cancer. I had to take care of myself–pay my mortgage and other bills on minimum wage pay. I thought about it, prayed about it, and came up with the idea that if I could write all of those books for other people and make them wealthy, I might as well write them for myself and market them myself.
I wrote my second novel, THE MAYOR’S WIFE WORE SAPPHIRES, a political mystery. After all those years of writing it, I didn’t have marketing money, or a celebrity name. The Internet sharks smelled blood–a green newbie. They promised the world and I got worthless programs that didn’t work. I didn’t have the computer know-how or them to work. I didn’t know what they were talking about. I Now since I’d used the bill money to market my book and lost it, I had to do something fast, or I was going to be living in a shelter by the first of the month when my mortgage became due. That’s when I decided to find a way to sell my books, and I promised myself that when I found it, I would help others in a rough spot like me.
I took the weekend and thought of how I could sell my books. I must have walked miles that Saturday. Finally, I sat down and wrote out the formula for selling my books fast. I knew I couldn’t go the traditional way. On Monday morning, it was ready. I launched my THINK-OUT-OF-THE-BOX plan. In 30 days, sales were pouring in.
